Underserved groups experience a higher incidence of cardiovascular disease, other chronic comorbidities, and associated risk factors. Pharmacists have the training and ability to perform physical assessment, conduct screening tests, and educate patients on the prevention and treatment of many disease states. The objective of the study was to develop a pharmacist-led, community-based health screening service to address health disparities through academic-community partnerships. The School of Pharmacy is collaborating with Next Door, an early childhood education and social service organization in the Metcalfe Park neighborhood of Milwaukee, to create a unique, pharmacist-led, community-based health screening service. Through this program, School of Pharmacy faculty and students will deliver an array of primary and specialized health screening services at a clinic location inside Next Door.
